Director, Inclusive Democracy

Tom K. Wong, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized scholar and leader and directs Inclusive Democracy. In 2022, the ACLU awarded him its national Presidential Prize for outstanding contributions to advancing civil rights and civil liberties. He served as an advisor to the Obama White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, co-leading its immigration portfolio. Beyond the academy, he consults directly on campaigns and elections, building large-scale 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and independent expenditure programs that mobilize low-propensity voters of color and immigrant communities, and serves as lead evaluator for national civic engagement foundations. Having grown up undocumented, he uses his expertise to advance immigrant and broader justice movements, hence his motto, “research for an inclusive democracy”
